Comet ISON started it’s journey from the Oort cloud, a vast realm of icy objects that surrounds the outer solar system. By studying the comet’s orbit, scientists speculated that its 2013 fly-by was ISON’s first trip to the inner solar system, and that if the comet survived, it wouldn’t return for millions of years, if ever. On November 28th 2013, 4.5 billion year old comet ISON was vaporized by solar radiation from our sun
